New Year, New View on Health

Every year, we start out by making resolutions to do something different for ourselves or for others. Most of the time we break those resolutions and then just give up on them within the first couple of weeks of January. But what if we made a promise to ourselves to make one good choice for our health every day over the next year? That would be 365 good decisions in a year! If we did that just think of the new habits that we can create without feeling like we have broken our resolutions for the entire year. It would be a daily resolution to do something good for ourselves. That seems less daunting to me, I can totally do that!

Start with something small. Maybe choose a focus for each month and then do something each day to achieve better health. For us, January is about healthy eating habits. An easy thing to do each day is to swap a sugary snack or drink for a healthy version.

Some options could be:

  • Sparkling water instead of soda to get the fizz without the sugar.
  • Baked vegetable chips instead of fried potato chips for the crunch and salt without the extra fat.
  • Dark chocolate as a replacement for sweet milk chocolate to get more magnesium and other health benefits.
  • Organic foods over processed foods for higher nutritional value that makes you feel satiated, so you eat less but get more.
  • Greek yogurt for ice cream to get probiotics and less sugar and bad fat.

There are so ways to make your day a little bit healthier, all it takes is a little will power and dedication. Doing this can make it so easy and less like a “diet” because you aren’t limiting yourself but rather opening up your choices.

Small things done over time make a lifelong change that directly impacts our health and those we love. Let’s make the choice this year to be there for each other and support our health for a lifetime!
